Our activist friend David Schutz left us tragically. David was born in Jerusalem 36 years ago, an only child. He was an outstanding swimmer growing up. David joined the Jordan Valley Activists shortly after October 7. He was deeply involved in the activity and participated in Protective Presence in the West Bank, such as Masafer Yatta, where he met his girlfiend, they planned to marry later this year. David received an undergraduate degree at Princeton University US, and continued with law studies at the Hebrew University. He was courageous and opinionated, not hesitating to use his legal knowledge against soldiers and police officers overstepping the law. Many of us witnessed this.
On March 22, a week after the shocking settlers pogrom in Khirbet Humsa, David and two other activists arrived at the scene to provide protective presence. At evening, settlers from the nearby illegal outpost invaded the Palestinian land with their cows, and David tried to stop them. When they snatched his phone, he tried to grab it back, and then received two strong blows to the head with a rifle butt. The police refused to come to the scene.
Shortly thereafter David traveled to the US, where he stayed with relatives. During April, he went to Chicago to visit a childhood friend. On the 3rd night he walked out of the hostel wearing wet suit bottoms and a hoody. But he never came back. His badly decomposed body was found nearly two months later in nearby Lake Michigan.
David's devastated parents decided to bring his remains back to Israel and last week his funeral was held in a small Christian cemetery in Jerusalem. His parents honored the presence and activity of Jordan Valley Activists at the funeral and were very interested in hearing stories about him at the Shivah. They gave honor and respect to their son for his passion and commitment to defend the human rights of Palestinians in the face of extremist settlers. David’s father read with tenderness and appreciation the words of a Palestinian shepherd resident of the Jordan Valley, who expressed deep condolences and described David as a dear friend and family member. We will remember David with affection, sadness, and longing.

חברנו הפעיל דוד שוץ הלך לעולמו באופן טרגי. דוד נולד בירושלים לפני 36 שנים, בן יחיד. הוא היה שחיין מצטיין בילדותו. דוד הצטרף לפעילי.ות בקעת הירדן זמן קצר לאחר ה-7 באוקטובר. הוא היה מעורב עמוקות בפעילות והשתתף בנוכחות מגינה בגדה המערבית, כמו במסאפר יטא, שם פגש את חברתו, איתה תכננו להתחתן בהמשך השנה. דוד קיבל תואר ראשון באוניברסיטת פרינסטון בארה"ב, והמשיך בלימודי משפטים באוניברסיטה העברית. הוא היה אמיץ ודעתן, ולא היסס להשתמש בידע המשפטי שלו נגד חיילים ושוטרים שעברו על החוק. רבים מאיתנו היו עדים לכך.

Please can someone explain cause of death? Was it health related issues resulting from the blow he received from the settler? Something else? I am sorry to ask this at such a time, but i think it's important to understand if foul play is suspected.
