Michael Jochum - What we are witnessing in our Country is more... | Facebook

(2) Michael Jochum - What we are witnessing in our Country is more... | Facebook

What we are witnessing in our Country is more than a political disagreement. It is the normalization of moral collapse. It is the elevation of ignorance into identity, cruelty into virtue, and corruption into culture. These men are not merely wrong on the issues. They are not merely flawed leaders. They are inhuman destroyers of the civic order, architects of decay, and they carry their cruelty the way arsonists carry matches: casually, eagerly, without conscience or remorse.
They have dragged me back to a place I spent a lifetime trying to escape, a place where anger never sleeps, where the mind circles endlessly around the same moral wreckage, where even rest is haunted by the knowledge of what these people are doing to the country we love. It is exhausting. It is corrosive. And it is the inevitable psychological consequence of watching one’s nation be methodically hollowed out by men who have no relationship with truth, no respect for history, and no capacity for shame.
History, however, is relentless. And so am I.
Every era produces its monsters. Every generation believes its villains are unique. They are not. The names change; the pathology does not. The Hitlers and Eichmanns. The Stalins. The Maos. The Pol Pots. Men who mistook power for destiny and left only bodies, broken institutions, and the echo of their own lies behind them. What defines such figures is not merely the evil they commit, but the mass of ordinary people who enable them, the bureaucrats, the voters, the neighbors, the media figures, who look at cruelty and decide it is “necessary,” who look at lies and call them “strategy,” who look at moral collapse and label it “patriotism.”
Which brings me to the most dangerous force in any collapsing democracy: the politically illiterate voter.
The person who votes for human garbage and then wraps the act in a flag. The citizen who trades conscience for comfort, integrity for identity, citizenship for cruelty. You were not tricked forever. You were not helpless. You chose the lie because it was easier than the truth. You chose the strongman because responsibility is frightening. You chose the mob because thinking for yourself is hard.
The cruelty continues to be the point.
It is the glue of this movement. It is the reward system. It is the signal flare of belonging. If you are not outraged by the suffering of others, you are welcomed. If you are entertained by it, you are celebrated. If you help inflict it, you are promoted.
This is no longer politics.
It is a moral emergency.
This is no longer left versus right.
It is conscience versus collapse.
This is no longer about winning elections.
It is about whether a civilization remembers who it is supposed to be.
History will record this moment with brutal clarity. Long after the slogans rot and the hats fade and the personalities dissolve into footnotes, what will remain is the simple accounting of who stood up, who stayed silent, and who actively helped drag the country into the mud.
This is the test of our time.
And far too many are failing it.

This is Brilliant. You just get better and better every time. Your pieces could well end up in the Library of Congress.
Lois Gibbs
You are doing an excellent job of voicing how every sane person around the world feels and so eloquently. I share your sentiments and wonder how the American constitution can all this to happen.
Sean O Maille
I love your writing Michael.
However my fear is that you are preaching to the choir of converted.
How can we motivate the margins of the Maga base who are not perpetuating the madness or possibly even a tiny bit willing to see that they need to vote blue to avoid sleepwalking into a dictatorship?
Franca Taylor Voegelin
Just keep sharing. We all have friends, relatives, or acquaintances who are definitely not converted.
Mike Packard
Sean O Maille That slice of MAGA is so thin that it is insignificant. A third of the people in our country are so deep in the cult that they will never leave it, and they will die for it.
Peter Knudsen
Spot on analysis once again Michael. Keep writing like this and hopefully the words will reach the uninformed and unreflected. 👍
Eric Van Bezooijen
"In my work with the defendants (at the Nuremberg Trails 1945-1949) I was searching for the nature of evil and I now think I have come close to defining it. A lack of empathy. It’s the one characteristic that connects all the defendants, a genuine incapacity to feel with their fellow men. Evil, I think, is the absence of empathy."
-- Captain G. M. Gilbert, the Army psychologist assigned to watching the defendants at the Nuremberg trials
June Williams Forman
Brutal stuff. Wonderfully felt. Nicely expressed truths.
Mary-Margaret Braund
💕🇨🇦Thank you, Michael Jochum!! You are one of the most articulate writers on the stage!🇨🇦💕
Aniki Ladora
Thank you, Michael, for articulating so well what many others are feeling and can’t put into words. 🤗
Howard Yendle
Eloquently written as always Michael.
I'm in the UK & share your sentiments, how much worse it must feel for you. ☹️
The moment that justice collapses, so does democracy.
The world is at a CRITICAL point. Largely due to 3 old, white, corrupt, murderous, fugitives from justice, at least one of which is an imbecile & quite possibly a paedophile. What could possibly go wrong?
Adrianne Buschling
Thank you for this!! Such truth and depth of understanding!
Kim Moren
My thoughts exactly, thank you for being so eloquent in speaking out,I am losing my mind.
Kay Kendall
Michael Jochum your post reminds me of Thomas Paine in 1776. He famously wrote, "These are the times that try men's souls.
The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman."
Paine aimed to rally spirits when our American Continental Army was on the verge of collapsing after a series of defeats. Reading your post sure as well fired me up.
Dexter Crockett
Our so-called representatives are failing to curb a man who measures success in terms of how much he alone profits in graft, power and his evasion of responsibility at the expense of the lives of others and the cost to the standing of our nation. Our last hope is our vote in the coming months...
Connie Connelly
Yes, thank you so much for expressing so eloquently how I feel also...(minus the profanity!) FACEBOOK'S algorithm does a pretty good job of separating the MAGAS from the LITERATE, but occasionally I find myself on a site where I am sure I have been dropped into a barrel of complete unadulterated STUPIDITY AND CRUELTY...where EVERY TEXT CELEBRATES THE UGLINESS OF TRUMPLAND! How did this come to be? I have been turned into a 74 year old grandmother that DESPARATELY wants to reach through my cell phone to kick ass and take names..A LOT OF IT..AND THIS IS NOT HOW I WANT TO LIVE MY REMAINING YEARS! Mike and I have marched, I demon dial congressmen, we sign/donate and mass mail petitions, we throw money at more and more requests, (which only generates more of them from every direction and cause possible), YET THIS IS GETTING WORSE, NOT BETTER!
NOW, without so much as a blink, we are bombing CHILDREN, IN THEIR SCHOOLS!!! W.T.F.F???
Dirik Lolkus
Yup, a line has been drawn in the lateral sand and we are now fighting for the soul of our country.
Sharon Wigle
Well said, Michael Jochum. As a Canadian witnessing this horror, I would change one statement - "knowledge of what these people are doing to the country we love". Trump and his administration are not just destroying your country, they are destroying the world and thousands of innocent lives outside of your borders. I have friends and family in the U.S. who I would exempt from this observation - that it is self-focus that got the States into this mess in the 1st place.
You speak of the politically illiterate and I whole-heartedly agree; however, the problem encompasses the illiterate PERIOD. Have all of the "good" Americans who voted with the benefit of political literacy, lobbied for equal opportunity for all Americans? Did they help the poor in the 3rd world areas that lay within their own borders? It is shocking to me that there is so much poverty in the Appalachians, given the United States is the richest country in the world. That is shameful. My daughter saw it first hand when she went down on a missions trip to help rebuild some of the shacks many of these people live in. How ironic that there needs to be missions trips to the U.S.!
I sincerely hope that once Trump and his cabinet of fools are safely behind bars that you and all good Americans will realize that the only way to avoid another go-round is to stop being self-focused and fight for the rights of all your fellow Americans. This self-focus is most clear in your education system. When I was a child visiting Disney World for the 1st time, I was asked by someone at our hotel what it was like to live in an igloo! The knowledge of the majority of Americans of anything beyond their own borders is appalling; had they known anything of the history (and geography) of the world they may have learned of those historic tyrants which you note, but I doubt the majority are aware of these so they cannot learn history's many lessons. For example, here is a quote, from a speech made in 1793, as a result of observing the reasons for the French Revolution:
"The secret of freedom lies in educating people, whereas the secret of tyranny is in keeping them ignorant." Maximilien Robespierre
The Oligarchs of that time were completely ignorant of the sufferings of the poor. This is when Marie Antoinette, who had been told that the poor had no bread to eat, stated infamously "Let them eat cake." That same ignorance, and total absence of compassion or sense of responsibility, lives on amongst American Oligarchs now. History is repeating itself, in many cases because these individuals were not exposed to the lessons of history, although most likely because greed rules their hearts and they feel they are exempt from the fate of those who were equally self-focused: Hitler; Ms. Antoinette; Czar Nicholas II; etc...

Such an accurate description of what we are witnessing .i am still struggling with the metamorphosis of certain players in this game . Were they always this way and we didn’t notice ? Were they paid huge sums of money to play the game? Were they blackmailed into supporting the new regime ? Will we ever learn the truth about any of it ? Does truth even matter ? Will the moral decay and rot we are seeing ever be reversible ? So many questions without answers . 😞
Warren Lewis
Outstanding and reflects my own nightly nightmare of thought. I greatly appreciate your posts.
Tammy Bass
👏👏👏 You do such an outstanding job of putting into words what myself and millions of others are thinking and feeling. Don't stop. You are needed and appreciated.

Man! You are on fire, Michael Jochum.
Preach, brother, preach.

Short and concise, good job.

So well said sir!
Annie Mc Cartney
It’s awful to watch him from Ireland and know how corrupt he is. We expect integrity from the POTUS.
Susan Rumsey
Don't worry, Russia/Putin will ultimately be blamed for it all. It's the American Way.
Robert Terwilliger
I believe what you write convey the message extremely well for all of what our people are thinking and not saying it overtly as well as those are voicing it loud loud & clear.
Mike Packard
I have just come across a few of your posts in the last couple of days. The algorithm seems to be working in this case, because your observations resonate.
Just subscribed.

Fuck Trump 🖕🖕🖕
Don Makowski
Excellent Michael, I think of the individual who watches a person fall down and laughs. That is MAGA! Dumbass was the show for MAGA. No empathy!
Paul Grayhurst
Now is our time.
Our ancestors have all had theirs and our descendants will also experience “interesting” times.
Our parents and grandparents rose to the challenge of the world they were born into. Their challenges were unarguably much greater and more dangerous than ours are…at least so far.
Head out of the sand, folks. Engage now or our challenges WILL increase to the strife and warfare of those who fought before and for us, their children.
If we who still have freedom, if we who still have privilege, do not act out and speak up for/with those who do not…
who the hell will?
Deal with the world the way it is, not the way you wish it was.
…John Chambers…
Let’s make this a better world for ALL!

I always like your posts, but this one especially. I love how you put into words the feelings of those of us who aren't ignorant to facts about this regime. It is indeed exhausting and enraging and that's by design. I will never shut up about it, but I won't put it as eloquently as you.
Elaine Pasqua
I just can’t wait to put this horrific moment behind us. I was hoping to chill in my later years. I was hoping we’d learn from our mistakes. Not happening now.
Patricia Puccio Trophia
Just reading this. Makes my heart sink to see what has happened & continues like a bad dream. I am going to The Resistance Rally on the 28th - a friend told me it’s going to be big. Feel so helpless … a lot of evil people at the helm.
Carol Cassol Thomas
Excellent writing! You describe my feelings so well!
Annie Bell
God you write so well, it's appreciated
Diana Mata
I totally agree with you on every word.
I hang on to every sentence you write for dear life, it's like riding a tidal wave on a million dollar board .

He said in a campaign speech “ I am your retribution”.
He”s a vengeful sack of shit who is making this country and the whole world suffer because he wants “revenge” for being treated like the hateful asshole he is.
Jim Resnick
Wow Michael, you just keep hitting the nail on the head. Lovely writing. Makes me wonder if I’m doing enough.
