A Guide to The Giants of Mandurah

The Giants of Mandurah are the work of Danish recycle artist Thomas Dambo. Overall, there are five of the large-scale art pieces around the Mandurah Region (and another in Subiaco).

Getting To Mandurah

The first step in seeing the Giants is to get to Mandurah. From Perth, it is 70km south of the Perth CBD. Depending on where you are coming from, it takes about an hour down the Kwinana Freeway. Alternatively, you can take a 55-minute train from the Perth Underground Train Station.

If you do go by train, keep in mind that you are going to need some form of transport to get around to the Giants. Fortunately, there are options, and you can hire an e-bike or electric scooter.

Mandurah Visitor Centre

The starting point to find the giants is at the Mandurah Visitor Centre. Here you can obtain a map and guidebook which will give you directions to 4 of the installations. You can also download a free map.

If needed, you can find The Bike Kiosk located near the visitor centre. From here, you can hire an e-bike, or even book a tour of the giants (book ahead for this).

The Giants of Mandurah

Santi Ikto

Santi Ikto is probably the closest giant to the Mandurah Visitor Centre and a good place to start. From the car park, it’s about a 20-minute round-trip walk to the the Giant. This is along a bitumen track, although there is a short sand trail in the final section. While walking along the path find Santi Ikto, you can enjoy coastal wildflowers and ocean views.

After a 10-minute or so walk, you’ll find the bushy-bearded Santi Ikto sitting cross-legged looking out across the ocean.

Yaburgurt Winjan Cirkelstone

About another 10 drive away is the Coodanup home of the friendly-faced Yaburgurt Winjan Cirkelstone. This is the newest of the five pieces, created as a replacement for Vivi Cirkelstone. Unfortunately, Vivi Cirkelstone was burnt to the ground, and Yaburgurt Winjan Cirkelstone was installed nearby.

Little Lui

Your hunt for Little Lui will take you to swampland at Marlee Reserve. From the suggested carpark, you follow a signposted track for about 20 minutes into the heart of the reserve. There you will find a seated Giant, propped up against a naturally fallen tree. The roots of the tree are used as part of his hair.

Seba’s Song

Seba’s Song is located in Wannanup and looks out over the marina. The position makes it a little difficult to take good pictures, but it’s still worth the 500m-600m walk from the carpark.

Jyttes Hytte – The Hidden Giant

Jyttes Hytte is a much more secretive giant, that is in hiding, Part of the adventure of the giant is collecting clues as to where Jyttes Hytte is located. He’s a little more out of town than the others.

Once you have located his whereabouts, you can drive to the area where he is located. From the car park, it’s about a 20-30 minute walk each way to the giant. Be aware that while it is a fairly flat path, it is not sealed

Billie Bob

Billie Bob headed off on his own adventure and became a little lost. At the moment, he can be found in the Perth suburb of Subiaco.

Giants are amazing for all to see!!

If you haven’t seen the giants, you should put it on your to do list.

I am very fortunate that I live in Mandurah and the 5 giants are often part of one of my weekly walks. It doesn’t matter how many times I see them I still think they are amazing.

The City of Mandurah was extremely lucky to have Thomas Dambo place his Giants here.

You will love finding the giants

The Giants are quite easy to find with the clues etc provided. They are the work of Thomas Dambo as world renown Danish sculptor who recycles materials in his art work. Mandurah have 6 to find. Due to the terrible weather we had while in Mandurah we found one, Seba's song. Seba is 4m tall and looking out to sea symbolising the link between earth and water well worth the effort. There is some walking to do to reach them and although on well maintained pathways the distance may stop some people

What a great day, a combination of treasure hunt and a day in the sunshine! We loved it.

Placing the giants apart means a bit of driving about, but it’s a terrific day. Most are ‘accessible’ but not all.

We followed the sequence on the little book from the tourist information centre, the first high above the ocean, accessible to a point. On a warm sunny day it’s magnificent. Not a long walk and easy going. Might be challenging on a really hot day. Take water with you.

Second and third are fairly close to the car parks, easy walks and close to loads of great spots for a picnic lunch.

Our fourth, was a longer walk, and you need to keep an eye out for signs, or you’ll think you are lost. I would say not really accessible, it’s through bush. We met a lady that had given up, it was just too far for her. And…watch out for the mozzies when you get there! But he’s worth the trek.

We didn’t get to the final (secret) one, but we will come back and do that another time. All i all dont miss it, I believe it is not forever.

I believe they will not ‘stay’ forever, so don’t put it off - Mandurah has much to offer.

Great for all ages

Whilst down in Mandura we visited 3 of these giants, our favourite was Little Lui as its through a forested area ( paths are clear though) so it requires a bit of effort to find ... plus we saw a family of kangaroos hop in the distance.
Very interesting for all ages.

Series of large scale installations around Mandurah & Subi

Feb 2025 • Couples
The Giants are large scale installations of whimsical giant figures made of recycled wood material and situated around Mandurah along with one in the Subiaco neighbourhood of Perth. They are the work of artist Thomas Dambo (2022).

There is a The Giants of Mandurah Visitor Centre in downtown Mandurah where you can learn about this free outdoor exhibition and the locations of the various Giants. There is information online about the Mandurah Giants you can use as well.

We managed to see two around Mandurah and the Giant in Subiaco as well. They are creative, playful and a good bit of family fun, making your way around locating and seeing the Giants. I'd look forward to searching for the rest of Giants unseen next time in the area.
