Tulsi Gabbard was the rising star of the Democratic Party. But the growing wokeness, racism, and intolerance were more than she could stomach, and she left. This is her story.

Today's Democratic Party is controlled by an elitist cabal of warmongers driven crazy by woke ideology and anti-white animus. They are a clear and present threat to the God-given freedoms enshrined in the Constitution.

A soldier, former member of Congress, and a presidential candidate, Tulsi loves her "I answered the call of duty and took an oath, dedicating my life to supporting and defending those freedoms, both in uniform and in public office. I became a Democrat when I ran for office because I saw them as a party that stood up for the little guy and against the interests of big business and warmongers. I remained a Democrat for twenty years, albeit with an independent streak."

Today that party is antagonistic to people of faith, hostile to the police and law and order, suspicious of law-abiding Americans, unserious about border security, and uncritical of a national security apparatus that targets political opponents and that is dragging us ever closer to apocalyptic nuclear war.

Now an Independent, Tulsi calls on those who love America to protect our rights from those who are seeking to undermine them at every turn. It’s time to say good-bye to the Democratic Party.

After reading this book, I have changed my mind about about Tulsi Gabbard. I originally though she would be a good candidate for US Vice President. Now I think I will write in her name for President. She by far outshines, outthinks and over shadows the two current leading candidates, who are unacceptable to me due to their personal, moral, ethical and human weaknesses.
I had followed the author a bit in social media and in video appearances and liked her, but after reading her book, my esteem for her has risen greatly. From the book, I learned some things I did not know, even though I follow politics and government very closely.
More importantly I found the the author is quite authentic and very unlike most politicians, she thinks for herself and does not fear to deviate from the majority, or criticize and finally leave her political party. I also left that same party many years ago for many of the same reasons.
I was first attracted to her very early successful start in politics, her military careeer and her service in the Congress, but became even more impressed by her independent attitude and sound analysis of the present saddening situation of our country that has almost completely lost its bearing in a world surrounded by evil forces, crises and temptations. Finally I like very much her emphasis upon the Creator, the family and love as the real things that matter.
Tulsi Gabbard seems to be blessed and guided on a Heaven-sent mission to be of great service to our beloved, besmirched, beleaguered, and besieged country.

"Regardless of your political affiliation or leanings, or which candidate you like or dislike, we should all be alarmed when those who are driven by their insatiable hunger for power are actively undermining our democracy without care for the short- and long-term consequences of their actions..."

For Love of Country was an excellent look into the current state of the modern-day American Democratic Party. Hopelessly drowning in a quagmire of woke racial politicking and pathological groupthink, they have completely abandoned the core ethos of the country that they run, the author says.

Author Tulsi Gabbard is an American politician, United States Army Reserve officer, and political commentator who was the U.S. representative for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district from 2013 to 2021. Gabbard was the first Samoan-American to become a voting member of Congress.

Tulsi Gabbard:

Tulsi writes with an excellent style here, which I found to be clear, lively, and engaging. She's got a natural talent as an orator, and it carried over into the writing here.
She also reads the audiobook version I have, and did an excellent job of the narration.

The quote from the start of this review continues:

"...They are doing all they possibly can to keep the American people from being able to choose who we want to vote for as president. They have no respect for us and our fundamental rights as citizens in a democratic republic. They are so afraid that we, the people, might make “the wrong choice” that in the name of protecting our democracy and saving us from ourselves, they are destroying our democracy and taking away our freedom to decide who our next president should be.
To make matters worse, those leading this fight really believe they’re doing the right thing. They say, with great concern in their voice, that if the American people elect Donald Trump again, he will destroy our democracy and be the dictator-in-chief. This is why they feel they are justified in trying to take away our right to vote for any candidate we choose … in other words, they say they need to destroy our democracy in order to “save” it.
This is lunacy. It’s the mindset and mentality of dictators..."
She lays out the scope of the issue:

"What’s at stake here is far greater than Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Our democracy is being destroyed by the permanent Washington elite in both political parties who truly believe they—and not the American people —have the right and duty to determine who we want to serve and lead our country. They readily dismiss the U.S. Constitution, the rule of law, and the voices of the American people, anointing themselves as the ones who have the power and justification to decide who will become president.
...Our democracy is under attack. It’s up to us to save it. We must hold those responsible accountable at the ballot box and send a strong message to leaders in both parties: those who abuse their power and undermine our democracy will not be tolerated.
If we do nothing, however, and turn a blind eye to those weaponizing our criminal justice system against their political opponents and telling us who we are and are not allowed to vote for, it will set a precedent for every election and presidency in the future and our democracy will be finished.
This is not the America my brothers and sisters in uniform and I risk our lives to defend."
In this short bit of writing, she explains why she left the Democratic Party:

"The party I joined over twenty years ago no longer exists today.
I could no longer remain in today’s Democrat Party, which is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers fueled by cowardly wokeness who divide us by racializing every issue and stoke anti-white racism, actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms enshrined in our Constitution, are hostile to people of faith and spirituality, demonize the police and protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans, allow our borders to remain open while claiming they are “secure,” weaponize the national security state to go after political opponents, and, above all, drag us closer to nuclear war with each passing day."
I used to wonder why Tulsi Gabbard didn't get the Democratic Presidential nomination. She ticks all the boxes: She's a woman, a woman "of colour," and a war vet. Unfortunately, she's also everything they dislike in a candidate: She's too independent, intelligent, and principled to tow the crooked party line. Instead of giving Tulsi the nomination, or making her a running mate, they chose Joe Biden, a man who can barely string a full sentence together, and cackling Kamala Harris as his running mate.

The creation of America as a nation-state founded upon the core values of freedom and liberty is a unique idea in world history. The values of freedom, liberty, and independence are sadly not the default state of human organization. Rather, as history has shown countless times; authoritarianism and restriction tend to be the default state of societal organization.

The First and Second Amendments were put in place to help prevent Governmental tyranny. The First Amendment is a bulwark against mankind's proclivity towards pathological groupthink. The Second Amendment is in case the First Amendment no longer works:

"Our Founders intentionally passed the Second Amendment right after the First. They knew how fragile this new, free democracy was, and how susceptible it would be to those who sought to abuse their power and take away our freedom. We must defend our right to bear arms, not only for recreational purposes, but to defend ourselves and our loved ones, and to serve as a check on the abuse of power by an increasingly tyrannical government."
Unless you have been living under a rock for the last ~10 years, it's hard to ignore how polarizing politics in the West are becoming. Partisan tensions have been steadily rising on both sides. If we don't find a way to soothe these flames, civil war will be an inevitability, and the entire house could burn to the ground...

The erosion of constitutionally protected rights and the core ethos that the country was founded upon should be alarming to you, regardless of your political leanings. Unfortunately in politics, this is rarely the case. Very few people are objectively principled, and only care if their side is winning. This is the tragedy of the deeply partisan human animal.

For anyone who's read about history, it is repeating, almost exactly 100 years later, IMHO. In Europe, Russia was the first nation-state to fall to a Socialist revolution in 1918. Organic far-leftist sentiment spread through much of Europe like wildfire. These tensions reached a boiling point in Spain first, resulting in the Spanish Civil War, circa ~1936-1939. The rise of Fascism also occurred in the post-WW1 period after the Russian Revolution, and saw the rise of right-wing strongmen Adolph Hitler and Benito Mussolini; both of whom came to power partly in opposition to this far-leftist sentiment. The reader should look into the state of Germany's Weimar Republic post-WW1 for more context. What resulted was the Second World War, and over a hundred million dead...

In this quote, she talks about the Washington Uniparty's support for endless wars:

"For too long, United States foreign policy has consisted of enacting crippling sanctions and waging regime-change wars, all under the banner of “defending freedom and democracy” around the world, and usually in the guise of humanitarianism. That was true under Democrat Bill Clinton,
Republican George W. Bush, and Democrat Barack Obama. And true to form, President Biden has made waging a “global battle for democracy” against the rise of autocracies in the world the central pillar of his foreign policy agenda.30
The truth is, this worldview is based on the propagation of lies that set up a paradigm of good versus evil in the world, all so the war uniparty can have a mechanism—or an excuse—to feed their insatiable desire for more power and more money..."
Some more of what Gabbard talks about in these pages includes:
• The Democratic Party attacking foundations of American freedom; free speech, gun rights,
• The Biden-Harris administration working with the FBI and other agencies of the federal government to pressure Big Tech companies, directly and indirectly, to censor and suspend the accounts of specific individuals.
• Political bias by Google; sending conservative political emails to spam folders
• Hunter Biden's laptop fiasco; its authenticity, and the squashing of the story during the 2020 election.
• The Elitist Cabal of Warmongers; Their aim of regime change in Russia
• Fomenting Racism; the cult of D.E.I.
• What’s True? The Powerful Decide
• Families Under Fire; Neo-Marxist Critical Race Theory and sexualized books as part of school curriculum

******************

For Love of Country was a sobering look into the state of the modern-day Democratic Party. Anyone who has not closely been following the ongoing culture war needs to put this one on their to-read list.
Tulsi Gabbard did a great job with this book. Hopefully, if more sensible people speak out as Tulsi is here, we can walk back from the approaching abyss.
I'm not sure where all this will end, but if history is any indicator, it will be a bumpy ride...
5 stars, and a spot on my "favorites" shelf.

This was one of my least favorite books. The inflammatory rhetoric, name-calling, shaming, misplaced blame, and false statements projected as facts is disquieting and it’s disheartening to know many reading the book might not fact check. (Though it’s bestselling status is specious to me considering with the similarly conservative, “Love, Mom,” is the only other current one with, “retailers report receiving bulk orders.”) For example, “Gender Queer,” isn’t and has never been for elementary school students.
In the author’s defense, upon looking now she has the words cabal and apocalyptic in the book description. I’m probably in the minority in that I simply read almost all the bestselling books regardless of politics. Others may be interested in due to the alignment with their views.
To me the one redeeming quality of this book may be that it’s good to know what some people think regardless of truth or fiction.

I did not want to read this book, but my mother begged me to, and I agreed. I am honestly ashamed to even post it on GoodReads, but I want my annual reading challenge to be accurate and I can’t figure out how to make it private.

Ms. Gabbard’s disturbing and vitriolic commentary on the Democratic Party is hyperbolic, ignorant, and downright inaccurate. She misrepresents the party’s view with faulty logic and her sources (when provided) often lack credibility.

Not for me, but maybe you’ll enjoy it if you’re a conservative hoping for some confirmation bias.

Tulsi tells the truth

I highly recommend this book for any independent thinking American, that’s seeking a perspective that’s outside of the elites in DC. Her first hand account of the nature of our political system is spot on.

This book covers Tulsi Gabbard’s views on events in the last few years – focussing on her disillusionment with the Democratic party. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Tulsi and she was forceful and convincing.

Tulsi enlisted in the National Guard after 09/11; was deployed to Iraq and was there for about 12 months. She joined the Democratic party in 2002, and credits this to being inspired by past leaders who embraced freedom. Her view is that the party has been taken over by selfish leaders, poor in negotiation who indulge in war mongering and have moved to the extreme left – promoting woke ideas. An example of how freedom is only paid lip service to is the extent to which the party would go to stop Trump winning the election. The book covers many public themes including – freedom, partisanship, wokeism, misalignment with peoples’ aspirations and others.

This being largely a political views book will expectedly invite diverse opinions. I found her to be extremely articulate & intelligent in her views. I have my concerns with wokeism as well which I think is encouraging extremism and exacerbating divisions. An example in the book is that of a young girl who comes to believe that she is a boy trapped in a girl’s body because she likes video games (based on posts on social media) and goes in for gender affirmation surgery; but later regretted her decision. Tulsi is scathing in her criticism of the Democratic party in recent years, possibly also bitter at how she was treated and sought to be defamed (suggesting she was colluding with Russia).

I would have liked more personal experiences as part of the book. I suppose though that she had decided to write this as a book of her political views.

I don't hand out five stars often. I wish Goodreads had a more precise rating method. While not perfect (I fear as when she starts that the very campaign as of early 2024--she mentions an event in February, may make a lot of the front-loaded content very dated very soon, for better or worse come November), given it's the first time I could bring myself to read a politician's own book, Tulsi Gabbard certainly seems to have relied on neither ghostwriter nor "as written with."

I took one of those ISideWith quizzes a couple of years ago, and it matched me closest by far to her as a theoretical presidential candidate, as to my views. She doesn't jump into the camp of the, as of this review, former president running against the incumbent. But she explains well why she left Congress after her own sadly aborted run in 2020. As a veteran who's served during one of the futile wars she has the insider knowledge of how her former party col!udes with both the national security state and the military-industrial complex to perpetuate our country's slide into destruction... That Doomsday Clock is at 45 seconds nowadays.

I liked her takes on the Bill of Rights, the freedom of religion clause, the dangers of a sitting President abusing the power of the three branches of government to eliminate his opponent, and how the surveillance of Big Tech allied with academia, media, shapers of opinion, and purported activists conspire to suppress dissent and to silence alternative views. She is firmly free speech no matter the cause. She doesn't endorse the rival party to the one she left, but rather argues that "vote blue no matter who" got the U.S. into the mess we're mired in today. She addresses many relevant topics, interspersed with her anecdotes from her upbringing in Hawai'i, her tours of duty, her experiences as a state senator and then House representative, and her reasons why she returned to her service duty.

I heard the audiobook, which enhances the encounter. I recommend that option, for she speaks in a conversational manner, never condescending or ranting. You can tell.her composure, and her commonsense outlook. She's from modest, solidly middle-class roots, with a firm confidence in her faith and a confident belief in the potential we have as ordinary folks to arrest the headlong fall into divisiveness peddled as diversity. She tells the story of civil rights leader John Lewis well. This shows her admiration for MLK's appeal to judge on the content of our character rather than the colors of our skin. Unlike many of her detractors, she's put her life on the line for the values she esposes. From a multicultural background, she embodies the best that can be, as a poised, thoughtful, and calm voice of reason. Whatever happens in her own career, for she's still in her younger forties, I hope she both guides those of us who need a path out of our present morass.

I powered through this audiobook on my commute and it is such a disappointment. She starts the book with an intentional typo (Democratic Party thank you, not Democrat Party) and proceeds with this disaster of a book with straw men, stereotypes, overgeneralizations, red herrings, etc etc. This appears to be another step in her transition from Democrat to Republican and her pitch to Trump to become his VP. She had such potential to be a real reformer. I voted for her in the 2020 election and boy did I get that one wrong.

I've been lukewarm about Tulsi for years but this is an absolute must-read. This is the kind of independent thinking we desperately need right now. I love that she calls a spade a spade (and brings the receipts) and is willing to look at both sides of this awful coin.

**#4 on the New York Times bestseller list**

Tulsi Gabbard was the rising star of the Democrat Party. But the growing wokeness, fomenting racism, and intolerance were more than she could stomach, and she left. This is her story and a call to action to Americans who love our country and cherish peace and freedom.

Today’s Democrat Party is controlled by an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by woke ideology and racializing everything. They are a clear and present threat to the God‑given freedoms enshrined in the Constitution.

A soldier, former member of Congress, and a former presidential candidate, Tulsi loves her country: “I answered the call to serve and swore an oath, dedicating my life to supporting and defending the Constitution, both in uniform and in public office. I have always been an independent-minded person but became a Democrat when I first ran for office because I saw a party that stood up for the little guy, free speech, and civil liberties. That party is no more.”

Today that party is unrecognizable: undermining free speech, antagonistic to people of faith, hostile to the police and law and order, suspicious of law‑abiding Americans, supporting open borders, and using our national security apparatus to target political opponents.

Now an Independent, Tulsi calls on those who love America to stand up for peace, defend freedom, and protect our democratic republic from those seeking to undermine it at every turn. It’s time to leave the Democrat Party behind.

Product description

Review
"Tulsi Gabbard is one of the bravest people in the United States--and if you doubt that, consider what she's lost for telling the truth about the most powerful people in the world." --Tucker Carlson

"Tulsi knows courage. She had the courage to serve our country. She had the courage to leave the Democrat Party. And now--in this book--has the courage to speak truth. Like her years in public life, this book pulls no punches. If you didn't know why you love America before, this book will remind you." --Pete Hegseth, Army veteran and Bronze Star Recipient

"Tulsi and I may not agree on everything politically, but we agree on the most important things: we love our country and are committed to defending freedom. I know Tulsi's heart, and have seen how she treats people with respect, regardless of their politics. I can always count on her to be honest, independent, and tough. All of those qualities come through in this book. Tulsi has written a gut-check that demands the attention of anyone who feels frustrated with the establishment and left behind. There is no doubt that what she says comes straight from the heart of a true patriot." --Meghan McCain

"Tulsi Gabbard is one of the most rock solid and honorable people I've ever met in my life. If the democrats and all the identity politics cult members really wanted a woman president, there's your girl. A veteran, deployed three times to war zones, who spent eight years serving in congress, with an impeccable record. But they didn't want anything to do with her, and it's entirely because of her uncompromising morals and character. Their baseless attacks on her and the blatant conspiring to keep her from ever getting close to the White House is one of the best pieces of evidence I've ever seen that the game is rigged, and all that woke bullshit they talk is just a long con to maintain power. I think she would make an amazing president, and I'm honored to call her a friend." --Joe Rogan

Tulsi is a truly independent truth-teller who deeply loves our country and is willing to fight for it! This book is a must read for all those who value freedom and are concerned about the direction of the nation. With individual rights and liberties under constant attack, Tulsi details what we must do to save the country we love and preserve individual freedoms for future generations. Tulsi bravely takes on the powers of permanent Washington and stands in the breech to defend our Constitution, and our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

- Jack Carr, Navy SEAL Sniper and #1 New York Times Bestselling Author of Red Sky Mourning and Targeted: Beirut

Said in American Greatness:
"Since leaving the Democrats, Gabbard has become one of the most important voices in the nation. For Love of Country may be the most important book of 2024. If you read one political book this election year, make it this one." - Steve Gruber

"It's without any glee that Gabbard calls out the party she once proudly belonged to--the Democrats--as a party that has abandoned religious tolerance and become a party that seeks to undermine people of faith, and especially Christians, at every turn."

"She is a thoughtful leader and a skilled writer, a patriot who has put her life on the line for America, and a courageous warrior in the battle of ideas as America finds itself embroiled in a cold culture war."

Said in PJ Media:
"Gabbard pulls the lid off Congress and reveals it for what it truly is: a club of mostly very wealthy people who have abandoned their jobs in order to keep a hold on the influence and riches that come with their jobs." -Greg Young

"Gabbard's "For Love of Country" is a deeply sobering read. The times we find ourselves in demand clear thinking, courage, and real American leadership. Gabbard provides all of that and more."

"Gabbard courageously spells out the precarious spot Americans find ourselves in."

Said in The American Spectator:
"America needs real champions of freedom. Tulsi Gabbard is... one of those champions. With this book, she has stepped up and accepted the challenge of fighting to save America from her former party, and we're better off for it." -Scott McKay

"Gabbard's exposition of the Left's militant disdain and campaign against free speech couldn't be more timely. Or necessary, for that matter."

Said in Blaze Media:
"What Gabbard writes is simply true. The fact that this young lifelong military officer and public servant has the guts to say it clearly is honorable. Her words of warning speak to an America on the brink of a fundamental transformation into something no one should want." -Mark Anthony

"Gabbard's words of warning speak to an America on the brink of a fundamental transformation into something no one should want."

"Gabbard earned a reputation for telling the truth no matter the consequences and no matter who it upsets while she was in Congress. She cemented that reputation during her presidential run and after."

Said in Entrepreneur.:
"Gabbard encourages individuals to be informed, hold leaders accountable and engage in civic activities that drive change from the ground up, no matter how difficult it may seem. " -Jeff Fenster

"Gabbard's journey reminded me of the importance of being open to different ideas and staying active in the community. As we navigate the challenges of our time, I believe that we can all draw inspiration from Gabbard's leadership principles of humility, compassion and spiritual grounding."

Said in The Epoch Times:
"It's oddly reassuring that there are at least a few people in our political lives whose sincerity outweighs expediency." -Roger L. Simon

"The work abounds with powerful denunciations--she does not mince words--of today's Democratic Party"

Tulsi Gabbard

4-Term Congresswoman and 2020 presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard is a veteran with three deployments to war zones in the Middle East and Africa. She has served in uniform more than 21 years, is currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve commanding the 440th Civil Affairs Battalion, and leads her non-profit organization “We Must Protect.”

Tulsi first served in elected office in the Hawaii State House of Representatives when she was 21 years old. Due to the attacks on 9/11, she enlisted in the Army National Guard. In 2004, she gave up an easy re-election campaign and volunteered to deploy to Iraq with the 29th Brigade Combat Team where she served in a medical unit.

After returning home in 2006, Tulsi worked in the U.S. Senate as a legislative aide to the late Senator Danny Akaka, who was Chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee. She then volunteered for a second Middle East deployment as a Platoon Leader.

Having experienced firsthand the true cost of war, Tulsi ran for United States Congress at age 31, vowing to honor the lives and sacrifice of her brothers and sisters in uniform. She prevailed in a difficult election and went on to serve in Congress for eight years as a member of the Armed Services, Homeland Security, and Foreign Affairs Committees. Foregoing a run for re-election to Congress in 2020, she ran for president in the Democratic Party.

In October 2022, Tulsi announced she was leaving the Democrat Party. She puts country before party and approaches every issue, domestic and foreign, based on ensuring the safety, security, and freedom of the American people.

Tulsi Gabbard’s first book, For Love of Country: Leave the Democrat Party Behind, will be released in April 2024.

5.0 out of 5 stars The problems with the current Democratic Party explained by someone who's been thereReviewed in the United States on 30 April 2024
Format: KindleVerified Purchase

This book is divided into eight chapters with each exploring a particular aspect of a sequence of events, some in the author's life, and some in mostly recent history, that led to the author making the decision to leave the Democratic Party. The author explains herself using a combination of stories from her interesting and accomplished life and footnoted references to events that illustrate her rationale.

The themes running through the eight chapters are: 1) The current Democratic Party is hungry for power to the point of wanting to replace God with themselves, 2) the Democratic Party doesn't care about people as individuals, and 3) the current Democratic party is incompatible with the principles underlying the Constitution of the United States.

The author's narrative style is easy to read. This author is not a ranting pundit, but a person who can explain her concerns with a combination of life experience combined with footnoted references to events that have occurred at specific points in time and space and can be looked up.

The book is divided into logical sections that do not overlap in content, though the themes that unite the book are briefly repeated.

Each section is long enough to develop and prove the single point of each section, without being too verbose or repetitive. This book is precisely long enough for what it is attempting to accomplish.

And, the book has footnotes. Many books of the political type don't. This is not a long rant, as were some political books I've read, but rather a multi-part indictment with supporting evidence.

My only critique of the book is that I wish the content was skewed a bit more toward the author's personal experiences, stories about herself that may not have been shared publicly yet, and a bit less toward recent events that I was very familiar with, so I ended up skimming the paragraphs that described them. But I had to keep in mind that that applies to me and not everyone who might read this book.

I would recommend this book mainly to people who think of themselves as political independents, and perhaps are put off a bit by what is considered conservative or "right wing' media. It's far more about why to not support the Democratic Party and not so much about supporting the Republican Party.

Loved the book and finished it in one sitting.
It is more personal than political. After reading it you feel like you have gotten to know Tulsi herself, not just how her views were formed.

This book is written from her heart. This book is a must read for all people who are concerned about the direction that government is taking to suppress the will of the American people. I am a politically motivated Canadian who sees my country falling into the same morally corrupt government control over its citizens as the USA. This book is a must read for all parents willing to educate their children to recognize that evil can be defeated by good if they have a faith in God and a willingness to fight for what is right and true.
