The South Australien Government has made an ad about its new anti-protest legislation and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.

Yes, protests can be disruptive and inconvenient. But freedom of assembly and protest is a fundamental right. Protesting is how we got all the rights we have today - voting rights, workplace rights, human rights, the lot. Which is why there's been a huge backlash against the SA Government's proposed law - and not just from so-called "greeny lefty losers" (quoting the SA Opposition Leader), but also from unions, civil & human rights groups. The bill will be voted on in Parliament tomorrow, Tuesday 30 May. If you're in Adelaide, there will be a protest (of course) against the proposed laws: 9AM TUESDAY 30 MAY, FESTIVAL PLAZA More details here: https://qrco.de/be1BFeShow less

I think it would be hilarious if violent protest became more sociably acceptable because of this law

This seems to mirror the UK law rammed through Parliament on short notice by the Tories in anticipation of protests during King Charles's coronation. That law is now being used to silence environmental and labor rights and other protests.

You guys are expert at depicting actual, real-life shitfuckery in the most humorous ways. If it weren't all so damned serious, I would imagine most of us would be truly splitting our sides with laughter, rather than merely streaming tears.

I believe now is the time to hit the panic button and call every bloke you know to protest, offer em free pints if you have to, but by god every aussie needs to protest this wave of anti-democracy.

Well done, thejuicemedia! You got this video out in a timely manner! As an Australian voter, I feel like all the things our ancestors fought for, have been degraded under our watch We voted these turncoats in & they betray us at every turn. Ever since Gough Witlam was so shockingly treated, government after government has whittled away at his wonderful legacy. We may as well go back to the bad old days, before him... Perhaps you mob could put out a video of what it was like for the working class in the old days, because thats what we're heading back to. Low life expectancy, hungry children, etc, etcRead more

So I just checked my notes and we're at the "The oligarchs are making it illegal to protest without actually saying it" stage. So I thumbed a few pages ahead and, well, we're in for it folks.

It's happening everywhere, in the UK they're removing all our protest rights and granting injuctions so companies are basically paying for their own private laws.

In NSW, this means that every time the teachers protested their wages and working conditions, their union was fined thousands of dollars. Every single time. Every time our nurses protested their wages and working conditions, their union was fined thousands of dollars. Every single time. It means that when they did protest, they really had no alternative because it was just so bad. It's part of how teaching and nursing staffing and staffing ratios got so bad in NSW - no-one could protest until the education and health systems completely broke. The protests you saw were a scream for help.Read more

In the UK the same thing. Rushed through before the chlorination of King Charlse . A number of people were arrested for ... having a small anti-fossil fuel sign, videoing someone with that sign, being a royalist near such people in the crowd. having a luggage strap ( which might be used as a "lock on" thus preventing removal by a cop) or being council appointed night safety volunteers ( who carry rape alarms, which might be used to scare horses the next day)Read more
